In this short guide, you can learn how to use GS1, the global standards company, to get a Global Trade Item Number or GTIN for your product, in order to create on-pack barcodes and QR codes.
-
A barcode number, also known as a Global Trade Item Number (GTIN), is not something you can assign yourself.
-
GS1, with its comprehensive database of issued and unissued numbers, guarantees the uniqueness of your GTIN.
-
GS1 publish guidelines on creating code images that are universally readable by machines worldwide.
Why GS1?
GS1 is the only authorised provider of GTINs the string of numbers you see under a barcode (also sometimes known as an EAN or UPC). Every GTIN is unique to a product. GS1’s GTINs and barcodes are used and accepted by retailers and marketplaces globally.
